i'm listening to the syf recording again - it's the only recording i have of us for now. but i think last night we sounded better than syf day, and i think it's cos we dont have to care about what result we're getting, and we can jus enjoy and express/rubato more than what you can try in syf.

it's good that we sounded good last night. it means we're improving. and you girls have to continue to improve and excell even after the sec4s 2005 step down.

i tell you last night's merry widow, the woodwind part of vilia, sounded so beautiful okay. sounded like some fairy tale full of love or smthh.

can cry one lor :D

that part particularly caught my ears :)

my friend told me the excitement was amazing. so there you go! smsb has had a niche of expressing, SO EXPRESS.

and i'm really really going to miss you all. like serious serious okay.

do the band proud alright? practice hard... i'll perform with you all at polka3 if i can okay! :D even better if you all are going overseas, i'll see if i can make it :P

to all st margaret's band members:

heyy people! 2004 is coming to an end, & it has been a busy year for everyone of us! :))

i just finish listening to the songs that the band has played in POLKA!!II. memories just flowed back. the feeling of being on stage when you're the limelight of the whole concert is just great! be thankful that you guys were supported by the school & were given a chance to have your own concert at victoria concert hall. :)) you wont know how this feels till you work hard & finally get to perform & hear people cheering for you! the night is yours! :))

it doesnt matter if you're a sec one, sec two, sec three or sec four to be a good band member. just put in your 100% during band practises & do what you can for the band. being enthusiastic is one of the main thing that you need to love band. do what you need to do! everyone has their own responsibilities! :)) when you're enthusiastic about band, you wont have to hear Mr Tan asking you to bring your instruments back home, & you would just bring them back yourself without them telling! if the whole band were to do that, the band would improve tremendously on the musical side.

discipline & respect is very important as well. give respect to your teachers, committee, section leaders, seniors & even your band mates. listen & dont complain. attitude is a small thing that makes a big difference! :)))

oh wells. you guys dun keep sticking with only good friends too. mix around! bond with each other. band needs a lot of team work, and it is not about you yourself only. we need to be united, and i believe we will be if you guys bond more with eah other! :)))

the next big event for the band would be SYF. i just hope that you guys wont find SYF practises boring, because those were the practises that made me love band. you just have the sense of belonging, & everyone else in the band is working towards the same goal, to achieve a gold in SYF (if possible). all those tears, laughters & scoldings would be worth remembering! :)))

band practises, band camps, graduation dinners, band outings, concerts & competitions wont be a success without you.

everyone makes a difference! :)))

here, i hope that i have urge you guys to have a passion for the band, the music! be enthusiastic!

band played a very important role in my secondary school life! :)))

hello!!

so the trip that Mr Tan planned for three years ago is over, and we're all studying hard for our exams right? (i'm just taking a break from studying right now)

anyway Sydney girls, it was a pleasure going. tiring, but. You all played well in the BMEC hall and the Sydney opera house. and i'm sure each one of you had your escape out of the real world (at least i did, a time to forget studies when i played in the opera house.that was the best) im sure you all have seen how crazy our teachers can get, though tehy cant always play and joke with all of us, but this has proved that they are our friends outside band right? (: through all this im sure you have seen that sometimes bad habits arise when you stay with your friends for eight days straight (im sure i have some myself!) but learn to live with them, don't shy away from those people even if they offended you in the cause of the trip. i'm sure all of you have learnt alot, and for most of us, we got to know who maam shuming is!! haha *grinZ*

as for those who didn't go sydney, im sure you all had a great time back in this sunny island. anyone went to the linkin park concert the night that all of us left for sydney? =P

right. i think i'd better get back to my studying (though i miss band horribly) okay i think the trip has brought me to enjoy music much more, and be more involved so thats why i miss band (: so i hope you all learn to enjoy and be more involved in the music that you make.

Dear SMSB,

I share the grief with everyone in school. Mrs Lee was my economics teacher at RJC and has been a very supportive mentor for the last ten years I have known her. She is a wonderful lady who believed in the band even when we only had 24 members back in 1999.

After we came down from the stage during SYF 03, I well remember her telling me, that our performance "made her hair stand". Band, our efforts paid off and we touched her heart.

Throughout her time in SMSS, Mrs Lee was very supportive of the band. She not only supported Polka, she even approved a special commissioning project, which made it possible for Dr. Kelly Tang to write Highlandler Overture specially for our band.

Let us not let Mrs Lee, our respected and beloved principal down. May SMSB carry on making beautiful music to touch people.

just an add on

okay i decided to add on to this cos i don't want you all to miss out on what Mr Tan has to say.. and i don't want all of you frantically looking for his post. anyway, just to let everyone know, Alison, Fungyin and I wrote a song (for the tribute thingy. cos we had a free english lesson just to do those) some of you might have read it if i bumped into you before recess.. but if the rest of you havent, here it is.

you taught us that, it always starts with me
we'll pass it on, to everyone around
we'll practice hard, and make our tone round

for chorales and overtures
we'll make music real
we'll try each time to do our best
and never any less

(i kinda forgot this verse,but it goes SOMETHING like that)

(apologies..i forgot this part. i'll go check it out when it's on the board tomorrow)
you're always there, supporting us each time
such gems like you, are hard to find

our one hours work :) yup. although sometimes we think mrs lee doesn't support us, she does..in simple actions like being present in our performances - rmb the istana? yupp. :)

hey just a short one okay?

i know alot of you are feeling real down..and i am to. yet just a word of encouragement, she's in heaven, yes she's in heaven,and i'm confident she's having a whole lot of fun with the big dude up there, and that she's happy. happier than she could ever be on this earth.

so just wanna tell you, these are the times that you really need your friends, and thats what a cCA is for. we see each other so often...and our best friends tend to come from there, of course there are exceptions...

cheerup everyone. or at least try to okay? i know it's hard. but yeah, just remember, you've got your friends behind you.

Dear Musicians,

I would like to remind everyone on the importance of sectionals. These are very important times and should be preserved solely for practice purposes only. The better the sectionals are, the more efficent and interesting the full band rehearsals would be.

When working during sectionals, do not merely play from the beginning to the end. Ensure that parts that are causing problems are being worked upon. Section leaders MUST be in charge and MUST be responsible for making the sectionals efficent and effective. They MUST ensure that the section improves after every sectional.

Sectionals are precious hours! Use them wisely!
